Morgans Hotel
Having been labeled by Vanity Fair as the "handsomest hotel in New York", Morgans is a real treat for the eyes. The turn-of-the-century building is grand from the outside, with its Beaux-Arts limestone façade, but inside is smaller and less intimidating than architect Ian Schrager?s other hotels. The lobby resembles a slightly updated, but very tasteful mansion living room: leather armchairs, 1920?s nickel lamps and Parisian flea market cane tables. There?s also an M.C. Escher carpet and Japanese paper screens, but overall the feeling is old-fashioned and formal. The guest rooms are stylish in a masculine way, but far from overwhelming, with down pillows and comforters, fine Oxford bed linens, distinctive maple furnishings and upholstered window seats. Bathrooms are modestly sized and tiled in black and white. The Morgans' in-house restaurant, Asia de Cuba, is one of the top 10 restaurants in NYC. The newly renovated Morgans Bar is a hip watering hole for the fashion industry. |
